Pranayama offers us a way to come into a deeper, subtler level of practice where we can cultivate and balance our prana, or life force. Discover various breathing exercises that you can use to either calm, energize, or balance your prana.
In restorative yoga, we relax deeply, allowing the body to rest and restore itself of depleted reserves. In this workshop, we will enjoy an extended restorative practice and then discuss the theory and science behind restorative yoga.
Yin yoga is a quiet yet powerful practice that targets the yin tissues of the body, namely the fascia, bones, ligaments, and joints. As a slow meditative practice, yin yoga can support mindful states of awareness, that when engaged regularly over time, can lead to full-bodied awareness and transformation. During this training module, you’ll learn basic modern meridian theory principles, introductory yin anatomy, and practice foundational yin asanas that you’ll be able to integrate into your personal practice and into your teaching.
Mindfulness and Meditation
If you’re interested in promoting relaxation, reducing stress, getting to know yourself better, improving your concentration, increasing your energy levels, and developing greater compassion towards yourself and others, then meditation is right for you! Learn a variety of mindfulness and meditation techniques and find what best suits you.
The Subtle Body
The subtle body is the energetic layer of our being that underlies and supports our gross physical form. Yoga, like many mystical and occult traditions, gives a great deal of attention to this subtle aspect of our being. In this module we will explore the various models of the subtle body commonly referred to in yoga. We will overview the Chakras, Nadis, Kundalini, as well as the Vayus and the Koshas.
Ayurveda and Yoga
For thousands of years, practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine have utilized yoga as the primary means to promote health and restore well-being in individuals. Delve into this ancient Eastern system of healing and learn how you can incorporate its principles to restore balance to your body, mind and spirit. You will learn how you can use your body’s unique qualities to both maintain your health and to naturally heal ailments.
With a deeper understanding of the nervous, immune, digestive, endocrine, and musculoskeletal systems of the body, yoga can be practiced in a way that enhances the therapeutic benefits for any given individual. We’ll cover the basics of each system and how they relate to common chronic conditions in our culture. An understanding of how yoga helps various conditions deepens our own practice as we move through life’s phases and provides us with information to help others.
Anatomy & Physiology A: The Science of Breathing
In this course, we will explore the science of breathing. Breathing is the most essential aspect of being alive. Yogis have suggested that mastery of the science of breath is the key to self-mastery as well as health and longevity. We will take a closer look at the breathing process and its implications for the practice of yoga. We will explore nasal laterality, the mechanics of breathing, the functional aspects of breathing, various modes of breathing, and the relationship between breathing and the nervous system. The concept of heart rate variability (HRV) and how it relates to our well-being will also be introduced.
Anatomy & Physiology B: Yoga & the Nervous System
In this course, we will explore the complexity of the nervous system and its implications for the practice and teaching of yoga. The purpose of the nervous system is to facilitate high-speed coordination of complex activity within the body. A general understanding of the basic anatomy and physiology of the nervous system will enhance your practice and ability to facilitate an intelligent and sound yoga class. You will learn how the practice of yoga is a practice of neurological refinement.
Anatomy & Physiology C: Connective Tissue and the Science of Flexibility
In this course, we will explore the amazing world of connective tissue. Connective tissue, often called fascia, is the glue that holds the cells of the body together. When practicing postural yoga we are sculpting our bodies by means of the connective tissue. We will also take an in depth look at the mechanics of flexibility, an understanding of which is advantageous for deepening your practice and teaching of yoga.
Anatomy & Physiology D: A Closer Look at Supine and Prone Poses
In this workshop will take an in depth look at the anatomy and physiology of supine and prone poses. We will review a number of major postures including forward and backward bends, twist and side bends in order to investigate the fundamental mechanics of a given pose. The mechanical actions produced by the orientation of a pose and its relationship to the muscles, bones, nerves, fascia (connective tissue) and the breath will be examined.

Katy Cryer offers her students a welcoming, inclusive approach to studying and practicing yoga. Kendra Diaz-Ford, PhD, believes in the transformational power of yoga as a path of self discovery, healing and joy. As a yoga teacher, doctor of transpersonal psychology, energy healer and massage therapist, she teaches yoga from an integrative lens that combines these healing modalities to offer integrative classes that are grounded, accessible and focused on empowering students to experience greater inner and outer alignment.
Jennifer Meek, E-RYT, is a Yoga Therapist and dance artist who continually finds herself fascinated and inspired by the transformative potential of movement and mindfulness. Her passion for health and well-being shine through her teachings as she inspires students to practice in an authentic and mindful way, understanding that health and yoga are not 'one size fits all'.
Broderick Rodell forwent a professorial career in Chemical Engineering to study Naturopathic Medicine and yoga. In his workshops and classes, he incorporates knowledge gathered from the western sciences of psychology, physiology and anatomy to complement the rich Yoga science from India.
Deborah Burkman has been teaching yoga since 2000. Her Vinyasa teaching style is rooted in Ashtanga yoga, emphasizing bundha, breath, and dristi. While her largest influence came from the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, she has integrated what she has learned from numerous other teachers including, Richard Freeman, David Swenson and others. Deborah is a contributing writer for Yoga Journal Magazine. She has been featured in Yoga Journal, 7 by 7 magazine, The Bay Guardian, SF Weekly, and San Francisco magazine. She leads yoga retreats around the world and workshops and yoga intensives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Jeremy Daniel Marshman (Amarjot Singh) has practiced yoga and meditation since 1997. In addition to teaching Kundalini Yoga he is a licensed psychotherapist and maintains a private counseling practice in San Francisco and Berkeley.
